Top Five Date Ideas

I mentioned earlier that a local high school has a week of Sadie Hawkins that’s referred to as “Corrigan”. Well, after the girls ask the guys, what’s next? What do you do for “dates” when you may or may not be dating the other person? If you’re going as friends, it can be a little tricky to find activities that aren’t just for couples.

Here’s a list of my top five favorite “date” ideas. These are good for two friends, a couple or even a group of friends!

1. Paint Fight
This idea is especially fun when it’s part of a photo session. (Click here to see a photography option.) It doesn’t matter whether you’re friends or a couple, this is a messy activity that’s a blast to do. *Make sure to wear old clothes, even if the paint is washable.

2. Photo Scavenger Hunt
This is best done in groups. Pair up and take photos of a list of items. Whatever you do, be creative and have fun with it. When you’re done or time is up, go back to the meeting spot and compare photos. These usually lead to some funny stories.

3. Drive-in Movie
Anybody can go to the movies (been there, done that); however, there are a few drive-in movie theaters left. This is one way to please the movie buffs, do something relaxed and still make it unusual. Grab some food to go, get popcorn or candy, but don’t miss the next show.

15 drive-in theaters operate in Texas, some old and some new. On one end of the spectrum, there’s The Last Drive-in Picture Show in Gatesville, which has been operating since 1950. On the other, there’s the Coyote Drive-In in the Trinity Uptown area of Fort Worth.

4. Kayaking or Canoeing
Are you both active people? Try getting out on the river/lake in a kayak or canoe! There are a lot of places that offer kayak and canoe rentals, or a friend may let you borrow theirs. Sometimes it’s fun to do something different and see a new side of the area where you live.

These two paddling trails are right in the heart of downtown Waco and offer easy access for beginning and experienced paddlers alike. Depending on which trail you choose, you can enjoy a scenic 2-mile loop trail on the Bosque River or a 5-mile loop on the Brazos River through the middle of town.

5. Trip to the Zoo
Everyone goes to the zoo as a field trip in Elementary School, but it’s really fun to go back when you’re older. Go as a duo or grab a group of friends, but this is definitely a winner. See how much has changed since you were little and share stories about what you thought the first time you saw the animals!
