I love Disney movies and have created several boards that are based on Disney stories (mostly about the princesses). I’m sharing these themed wedding boards with you in a series. Check back each week for another themed board.
Please note that these “Themed Weddings” are not intended to be a Disney princess wedding. If we go too literal this will look like a little girl’s birthday party. The intent is to give you ideas based on the setting, feel, season and/or colors of certain movies. The photos are from Pinterest and lead directly to their pin.
This week’s wedding is inspired by Disney’s movie Sleeping Beauty. I did not incorporate the spindle because of it’s role in the story. However, the vines, candles and abundance of flowers create a similar feeling to this classic story. Enjoy this Sleeping Beauty themed wedding.
Theme Setting: Indoors with a Slight Old World/Renaissance feel
Color Scheme: Blush, Gold and other pink tones
Here is an idea for incredibly creative invitations by www.cutture.com. I love the story cut out above the words.
In the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora’s dress goes back and forth between pink and blue.
Instead of switching, I’ve picked a soft pink tone on this beautiful and feminine ball gown wedding dress.
I love this half-up look, especially with the curls and the sparkle of the tiara.
This theme is taking ideas from Disney, but I also wanted to tie in the time period with some Renaissance inspiration. These earrings are a unique blend of the old style with a modern take.
With a blush colored dress, why not have the ring match? Here is a stunning pink diamond set in rose gold with small diamonds around the bands.
Here is another twist of old styles with a new take. The time period we’ve chosen may have used ribbons and boots, but the design of this pair of shoes is very elegant and modern.
Wondering what your prince will wear? Pick a suit or tux that also has a unique flare. The tie and vest of this outfit is red, but you could easily change it to blue or burgundy.
I’ve also selected blush bridesmaids dresses with beautiful gathers, a beautiful flow and pretty pearls for added interest. Some people may not like having the wedding dress match the bridesmaids in this rosy shade. That’s an easy fix. Just go with a burgundy or a blue and you’ll have dresses in complimentary colors.
Since this is a Sleeping Beauty inspired theme, I chose a cascading bridal bouquet. The ivy reminded me of the vines that covered the castle (without bringing in a dark and sad element). Also, did you notice the many shades of pink? I’m not even all that crazy about pink, but I love this arrangement.
Instead of a satin basket for the flower girl, place the petals in this pretty wooden basket. This is charming and brings in the natural element that is common with the floral arrangements and decorations.
If you really want to add the vines element with beautiful drama, try this styling. The ivy lines the stairwell, but the flowers soften the look while the candles add romance and mystery.
Instead of a traditional guest book, try finding a book that looks like an old storybook. You might find some journals like this or even art books with blank pages. You can customize the inside with graphics or just add lines and a header.
Carrying over the storybook idea, you can make the programs look like a miniature book. There are many fonts to chose from to give the desired effect. In the pocket, you can include small packets of rose petals to throw at the bride and groom as they leave the ceremony.
The candles and soft pink petals are carried over into the ceremony as they line the aisle.
Can’t decide whether you like chair covers or not? Here’s something in between. These pretty drapes and bows add a unique style without going all out for chair covers. I’d also like to point out that the tablecloth is draped over the table-skirt for a little more drama.
These succulents were painted gold and hold the escort cards. This is a beautiful example of the floral styles of the Renaissance with a modern twist.
I love carrying the pink and gold tones into the table setting as well. Be careful not to go overboard on pink. You don’t want the table to look like bubble gum exploded on it. Notice how this tablecloth has a brocade design in a soft gold color? That adds the subtle base so you can add pops of pink in the flowers and napkins with gold china and chargers.
You can have fun with the table numbers. Just find an old-fashioned font and place the numbers in gold frames!
If you haven’t had enough touches of gold, or just want to go over-the-top, rim the glasses in gold sugar.
I love the classic look of this cake. I keep expecting it to be a painting instead of a real cake. Instead of ivy like in other elements listed above, flowers climb the cake with a few fern elements in the icing. You could place this on an elaborate stand, but I love the tree stump to tie in nature’s elegance.
After all this, my question is simply this: Pink or Blue? I hope you’ve enjoyed the ideas in this Sleeping Beauty inspired wedding. Enjoy!
