Disney Themed Wedding #5 :: Pocahontas (Native American or Bohemian)

I love Disney movies and have created several boards that are based on Disney stories (mostly about the princesses). I’m sharing these themed wedding boards with you in a series. Check back each week for another themed board.

Please note that these “Themed Weddings” are not intended to be a Disney princess wedding. If we go too literal this will look like a little girl’s birthday party. The intent is to give you ideas based on the setting, feel, season and/or colors of certain movies. The photos are from Pinterest and lead directly to their pin.

This week I’m focusing Pocahontas. It’s difficult to find ways to incorporate Native American traditions and styles into a modern day wedding. That’s why I chose to blend a Bohemian and Native American theme. This is great for a free spirited person, like Pocahontas. There are lots of details that elude to various Native American traditions and styles with a modern Bohemian vibe. Enjoy this version of a Pocahontas wedding!

Theme Setting: Outdoors (especially in the fall) with a Native American and Bohemian feel
Color Scheme: Turquoise, coral and neutral tones.

Many of the ideas in this post embrace simplistic and natural ideas with special traditions and symbols.

The engagement ring can be any natural gemstone. For this post I chose this pretty opal ring (my birthstone) because it plays with “all the colors of the wind” and is very natural.

A bride wanting to use this theme will want to look carefully for a wedding dress that works well.
This Ann Taylor dress has fringe, but it doesn’t necessarily look tribal. It’s a pleasing blend of traditional characteristic with a modern twist.

Here’s an alternative to a headdress. This fun fabric headband has feathers woven in. It’s great with the natural and loose hair, natural make-up and stunning bouquet. Speaking of floral arrangements, check this one out! I love the wild look it has. The stems are wrapped in burlap and also have a few feathers tucked in!

Following the wild and natural floral idea, the groom would look great with just a few sprigs of wheat and a bow for his boutonniere.

The bridesmaids can wear pretty and neutral-toned dresses. These would look great with coral and neutral bouquets!

Invitations are a great way to set the tone of the wedding. Be sure to include some symbols that are typically associated with a Native American theme. This will let your guests know that you plan to celebrate your heritage during the wedding.

There are a ton of outdoor locations to choose from. Some ideas include fields or under a weeping willow.
For chairs, you can use white wooden chairs or something like the dark wood chairs below.

I like the darker chairs more than the regular folding whippet chairs. Somehow they always feel formal.

Don’t forget to include some traditions. One idea is to use ceremonial turtle shell rattles, symbolic of longevity.

Ceremonial turtle shell beaded rattles are used at Native American weddings to symbolize longevity.

For the reception, you can utilize a white tent and include neutral drapes to dress up the space.
I also love the centerpieces and pops of coral.
However, I wouldn’t include the chandeliers because they don’t completely fit with the feel of this theme.

Here’s an ideas in case you wanted to use pops turquoise instead of coral and didn’t want a big tent.
I love the blue with the burlap and white.

What a beautiful table! I love the sky blue mixed with brown for an outdoor reception.

Last, but certainly not least, the wedding cake! I love the symbolic dream catchers and the turquoise cake stands.
Everything from the cake to the table arrangement to the backdrop is fabulous!
