I love Disney movies and have created several boards that are based on Disney stories (mostly about the princesses). I’m sharing these themed wedding boards with you in a series. Check back each week for another themed board.
Please note that these “Themed Weddings” are not intended to be a Disney princess wedding. If we go too literal this will look like a little girl’s birthday party. The intent is to give you ideas based on the setting, feel, season and/or colors of certain movies. The photos are from Pinterest and lead directly to their pin.
Today’s inspiration comes from Mulan. This theme is full of Asian influences. Most of Mulan’s story circulates around the battles, so I’ve focused on other parts of her story and cultural aspects. The color palette has bold statements of red and gold, but there are also pink cherry blossoms to soften the look. I hope you enjoy potential Mulan wedding!
Theme Setting: Asian Garden, Indoor Ballroom
Color Scheme: Red and Gold with touches of pink
Rings are important at any wedding. This gold band displays the Chinese symbol for “Double Happiness”.
As always, invitations set the tone for the wedding. This unique boxed invite shows the Asian theme and colors, but it also depicts a more formal style.
Another beautiful way to make invitations personal is with wax and seals. This one shows the symbols for “Double Happiness”.
The wedding couple may want to even wear traditional, formal wedding attire like this.
However, if the bride can also find a white wedding dress cut in an Asian style.
If you go with the white dress you can incorporate red in the shoes.
Bridal jewelry can be unusual like this gold, diamond and pearl Chinese lantern pod.
There are some traditional and stunning hair pins like these that would look good in any hairstyle.
Although, I am pretty partial to an updo like this.
I love the idea of this wedding bouquet with lockets and rings from ancestors.
The men can wear cherry blossom boutonnieres.
Bridesmaids will look great in these beautiful red dresses.
There is something so special about this setting. I love having the ceremony under the pagoda.
One tradition to include is the tea ceremony which shows respect to elders. The couple drinks and then offers the tea to their family. Another way to honor ancestors is to have white flowers on a table at the ceremony.
Fold the program into Chinese fortune tellers, or use this form of origami for escort cards.
These origami cranes would look great at the ceremony or the reception.
Just look at this stunning reception setting! I love the cherry blossoms and fallen petals.
These toasting glasses can be enjoyed for years to come.
Place settings can include these chop sticks that can double as a wedding favor.
This wedding cake incorporates the cherry blossoms and the “Double Happiness” symbol.
The groom’s cake can be daring like this red cake with gold dragons.
Guests may write notes on these Chinese floating wishing lanterns.
You can also include personalized fortune cookies as wedding favors.
I hope you enjoyed this Mulan Inspired Wedding!
