Wedding Planning – Final Logistics – Week 51

Congratulations on your engagement! This is a really exciting time in your life. It’s also probably going to be a bit stressful.

During this next year, I want to walk through this process with you. I’ll give you a 12 Month Guide to planning your wedding and explain things along the way. You can start from the beginning here (click). Come back to this blog each week for the next installment.

 Week 51 – Final Logistics

There are a few logistical items that we should get in order before your wedding. They won’t take long, but they are really important.

First, make a list of things you should delegate to other people. This includes anything from getting lunch for the wedding party to handing out programs to collecting the gifts at the end of the day. Every item should have somebody in charge of it. Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family if they can do one or two things. Do be careful about not overloading anyone with too many tasks, one to three should be the norm.

Second, check your contracts to see when final payments to vendors should be made. Some require it before the wedding and others at the wedding. Make the payments to anyone you agreed to pay before the wedding. For anyone who needs to be paid at the wedding, write checks to them and place each one in a labeled envelope. Make arrangements to give them to a trusted friend or family member on the morning of the wedding. They can then give them to the appropriate parties.

Finally, once the wedding day timeline and delegation details are finalized, email all the wedding details to vendors, family and wedding party. This should be done the week before the wedding. That’s early enough for everyone to make final plans and late enough that they won’t forget. Anyone who needs to be at a certain place at a certain time (other than the ceremony) will need a timeline that indicates when and where they should show up.

Next week we’ll talk about the final preparations before your big day!!!
